Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company PJSC (du) has announced a major deal worth 2 billion dirhams ($544.54 million) to build a hyperscale data center in collaboration with Microsoft. The data center will be constructed and operated by du, with Microsoft serving as the main tenant. The facility’s capacity will be delivered in phases, according to a statement from du.
Hyperscale data centers are large-scale facilities designed to provide data storage and cloud computing services for businesses. This agreement, made during Dubai AI Week, is a key milestone in du’s mission to transform the UAE’s digital ecosystem. Fahad Al Hassawi, CEO of du, emphasized that the deal marks a pivotal step towards revolutionizing the UAE’s digital infrastructure.
Currently, du operates five data centers across the UAE, which is investing heavily to become a global hub for artificial intelligence, positioning itself outside of the US as a major player in the AI space.
