Ncell Becomes Nepal’s First Data Centre and Cloud Service Provider Certified by the Government

Ncell has officially made history as the first and only Nepali company to be enlisted as both a Data Centre and Cloud Service Provider in Nepal. The Department of Information Technology (DoIT), under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MoCIT), recognized Ncell for both services on Sunday. This achievement follows the approval of Ncell under the Data Centre and Cloud Services (Operation and Management) Directives 2025.

The legal provisions of the directives necessitate all current data centre and cloud service providers to register with the DoIT within six months of the directive’s issuance. Ncell has successfully completed the enrollment process well before the deadline. The directive, which became effective on January 28, 2025, was the result of a minister-level decision made by Prithvi Subba Gurung, the Minister for Communications and Information Technology. It establishes the legal framework for the regulation of data centres and cloud services in Nepal.

Ncell met all necessary operational standards and security protocols during an in-depth inspection of its infrastructure, followed by a review of the company’s application and submitted documents. This thorough process led to Ncell securing separate certifications for operating data centres and providing cloud services.

This recognition makes Ncell the first company in Nepal to fully comply with the new legal framework, showcasing its commitment to international standards, cybersecurity, and data privacy. The company currently operates a state-of-the-art Tier III Integrated Data Centre (IDC) in Nakkhu, Lalitpur, catering to banks, government agencies, and large enterprises. Additionally, Ncell operates two disaster recovery data centres in Pokhara and Hetauda.

Dion Asencio, Chief Business Officer at Ncell, emphasized, “Our commitment to international standards, prioritization of cybersecurity, and focus on data privacy contributed to the smooth enrolment process. Ncell is proud to be the first and only company in Nepal to receive this recognition from the government. As the demand for data centres and cloud services continues to grow, this certification is of tremendous importance. We are grateful to the DoIT for this recognition, as it reflects Ncell’s commitment to supporting ICT development in alignment with the Digital Nepal vision.”
