The King Abdullah Financial District Development and Management Company (KAFD DMC) and Huawei have unveiled the first Smart WiFi-7 service in Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone in the district’s digital transformation. The service, which will be implemented across KAFD, aims to enhance connectivity for residents, visitors, and tenants, solidifying KAFD’s reputation as a global smart city leader.
The collaboration between KAFD and Huawei integrates the Smart WiFi-7 technology into KAFD’s Smart City Platform, which harnesses artificial intelligence and data analytics to provide integrated digital services and optimize data usage. This initiative further positions KAFD as a cutting-edge innovation hub in the region.
KAFD’s dedication to offering a high-quality urban experience is demonstrated by the partnership, which aligns with Saudi Vision 2030’s Quality of Life Program. Riyadh, ranked 3rd regionally and 25th globally in the IMD Smart Cities Index 2024, continues to lead the way in smart city development. This new service will provide residents and businesses within KAFD with reliable, high-speed internet access, enhancing the visitor experience and promoting seamless connectivity throughout the district.
The launch of Smart WiFi-7 brings several benefits to KAFD. It delivers faster, secure internet, improves connectivity during peak periods, and offers multiple authentication methods. Additionally, the technology enables personalized suggestions and tailored offers based on individual preferences. Retail and restaurant owners in KAFD will also benefit from an efficient advertising platform, enhancing sales and operational efficiency with real-time analytics.
This collaboration between KAFD DMC and Huawei builds on their previous partnership, formalized in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at LEAP 2025. The agreement focuses on the advancement of smart city applications and technologies, aiming to drive innovation in KAFD’s 1.6 million square meter development. KAFD is the first neighborhood in the MENA region to earn WiredScore’s Global Smart Neighborhood Certification, recognizing its top-tier digital infrastructure and commitment to connectivity, sustainability, and a seamless living, working, and recreational environment.
