Power Outage in Spain and Portugal Disrupts Orange Maroc Internet Services

A major power outage in Spain and Portugal on Monday caused disruptions to Orange Maroc’s Internet services in Morocco, the French telecom giant’s subsidiary announced. The company confirmed that the outage, which affected international connections, was caused by a widespread power failure across the Iberian Peninsula.

Orange Maroc stated in a press release that the power blackout, which occurred at 12:30 p.m. (1030 GMT), impacted mobile networks, Internet services, and railway operations in Spain and Portugal. Although other Internet providers in Morocco, such as Maroc Telecom and Inwi, have not issued statements regarding potential disruptions, no reports have been made about the blackout affecting the country.

Spanish and Portuguese authorities are still investigating the cause of the outage, which also briefly affected Southwest France, according to the region’s high-voltage grid operator. In Morocco, authorities have not reported any adverse impacts.

Meanwhile, in neighboring Algeria, the Ministry of Telecommunications warned of potential Internet service interruptions due to the blackout. At 1330 GMT, it cautioned that disruptions could occur “in the upcoming hours,” but no issues have been reported thus far.
