Amazon Web Services (AWS) has announced plans to integrate its cloud technology within Orange’s mobile networks in Morocco and Senegal later this year. This deployment will be the first of its kind in Africa, marking the introduction of AWS Wavelength on the continent, including regions without existing AWS Regions or Local Zones—data center clusters of varying scales.
AWS Wavelength is designed to support ultra-low latency applications and ensure data stays local to meet regulatory requirements. This technology is particularly beneficial for industries like telecom, finance, the public sector, and real-time applications such as gaming.
The partnership leverages Orange’s extensive African presence, spanning 18 countries and serving over 298 million customers globally. AWS executives Amir Rao and Robert Belson highlighted that Orange’s market expertise and reach would provide significant advantages to AWS customers in industries that require low-latency applications or must comply with strict data residency regulations.
