Casablanca to Host Smart City Summit in 2025 Focused on Sustainable Urban Development

Casablanca will welcome innovators, decision-makers, and urban planners from across Morocco and Africa for the ninth edition of the Casablanca Smart City event on May 21-22, 2025. The summit highlights the city’s growing role in shaping urban development across the region.

The theme for this year, “Smart NexGenCities: Innovate for a Sustainable and Inclusive Metropolis,” reflects a shift toward human-centered urban planning, emphasizing sustainability and inclusivity. The summit has evolved into a collaborative platform where startups, public institutions, local authorities, and citizens come together to reimagine urban spaces.

The 2025 program includes conferences and roundtables on topics such as smart mobility, civic participation, digital governance, and climate-conscious infrastructure. International experts will join local stakeholders to discuss innovative solutions to urban challenges.

A dedicated startup village will showcase breakthrough technologies from young Moroccan and African entrepreneurs, while a 48-hour hackathon will bring together 200 young participants to develop practical solutions for energy, transportation, and digital public services challenges.

The summit aligns with Morocco’s national strategies, including the New Development Model and Digital Morocco 2030 roadmap, both of which prioritize human potential and digital transformation for national development.

By hosting this event, Casablanca reinforces its commitment to evolving as a city developed with and for its residents, positioning itself as a hub for smart technologies and sustainable urban development. Last year’s edition focused on the transition from “Smart Citizen to Smart Metropolis,” providing the foundation for this year’s expanded focus on the practical implementation of smart city concepts.
