Dialog Axiata Launches IAX Submarine Cable System to Enhance Sri Lanka’s Global Connectivity

Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s leading connectivity provider, has launched the India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) submarine cable system, a major step towards enhancing the country’s global connectivity. The launch is part of a USD 100 million investment in international connectivity infrastructure aimed at delivering high-speed, high-capacity bandwidth to Sri Lanka’s internet users.

The official event took place at the Dialog IAX Submarine Cable Landing Station in Matara. The IAX system connects Mumbai and Chennai in India to Singapore, interconnecting with the India-Europe-Xpress (IEX) cable in Mumbai to extend connectivity to the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. The system features 12 landing stations across five countries, including Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Malaysia, strengthening Sri Lanka’s global connectivity and supporting the increasing demand for 5G, AI, and advanced data services.

Complementing the existing Bay of Bengal Gateway (BBG) and Maldives Sri Lanka Cable (MSC) systems, the IAX cable enhances network reliability and reduces risks by mitigating potential single points of failure. Dialog’s advanced cable landing stations in Matara and Mount Lavinia ensure uninterrupted and seamless connectivity, offering a more secure and robust digital experience for businesses and consumers.

Supun Weerasinghe, Director/Group Chief Executive of Dialog Axiata, commented, “We are pleased to strengthen Sri Lanka’s digital backbone with the launch of the IAX submarine cable. This investment, made possible through collaboration with our global partners, reaffirms our commitment to empowering Sri Lankan lives and enterprises with world-class infrastructure, ensuring that the nation stays ahead in a digital world. By improving network reliability and expanding capacity, we are working towards a more resilient and inclusive digital ecosystem.”
