Kuwait Strengthens Telecom Infrastructure Amid Rising Regional Tensions

KUWAIT — In response to escalating conflicts between the Zionist entity and Iran that have heightened security concerns across the Middle East, Kuwait is bolstering its telecommunications infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted service and national preparedness. Minister of State for Communication Affairs Omar Al-Omar led an emergency meeting involving senior officials from the Ministry of Communications, the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), and major telecom providers including Zain, Ooredoo, stc, and Virgin Mobile.

Al-Omar emphasized the ongoing coordination efforts to maintain telecom service continuity amid the volatile regional situation. The meeting aimed to enhance collaboration among government agencies, local and international service providers to prepare Kuwait for any emergencies or disruptions.

The recent escalation, sparked by a Zionist attack on Tehran, has resulted in casualties and heightened fears of a wider regional conflict that could affect Gulf states like Kuwait. Acting Undersecretary Mishal Al-Zaid confirmed that the ministry has increased technical readiness and monitors network performance in real-time to respond swiftly to any issues.

CITRA Acting Chairman Sheikh Athbi Jaber Al-Sabah highlighted measures including securing alternative routing paths with global providers and activating internet exchange points within Kuwait to stabilize data flow and prevent service interruptions.

Digital government services are also safeguarded under the emergency plan. Najat Ibrahim, Acting Director of the Central Agency for Information Technology, confirmed system integrations and operational plans to ensure uninterrupted government digital services under all conditions.

Telecom operators assured their preparedness through resilient infrastructure, upgraded emergency centers, and enhanced technical support, committing to ongoing coordination with government bodies for rapid response and service stability.

The meeting concluded with a decision to hold regular coordination sessions and issue periodic updates to maintain confidence in Kuwait’s telecom resilience during the ongoing regional tensions.
