Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Blocks Over 2,070 Phishing Websites and Malicious Apps in 2024

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) reported a significant crackdown on cyber threats in 2024, blocking more than 2,070 phishing websites and harmful mobile applications through efforts led by the National Telecom Security Operations Center (NTSOC). The center also identified over 550 cases of leaked Pakistani credentials via dark web surveillance and conducted extensive cybersecurity operations within the telecom sector.

During the year, NTSOC processed upwards of 3,200 Indicators of Attack (IoAs) and issued nearly 3,946 Indicators of Compromise (IoCs) to telecom entities, enabling real-time detection and response to cyber threats. Over 200 operational cybersecurity tasks were completed, and the agency’s Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) released thousands of public threat advisories alongside more than 50 targeted alerts to critical private sector organizations.

The PTA highlighted strong collaboration with Internet Service Providers (ISPs) that facilitated quicker threat containment at the network level. Additionally, a new two-way intelligence-sharing framework between public and private sectors was established to bolster nationwide cybersecurity preparedness.
