CG Mobile, a subsidiary of the Kathmandu-based Chaudhary Group (CG), has announced a strategic collaboration with Motorola, the renowned American smartphone manufacturer. This partnership designates CG Mobile as the sole authorized partner of Motorola in Nepal.
“We have been pursuing this collaboration for a long time, and finally, from August 2024, it’s official. We are now the sole authorized partner of Motorola in Nepal,” stated Vinay Joshi, a CG Mobile representative, to TechLekh.
Operating from India, CG Mobile plans to launch a range of Motorola products in Nepal, from entry-level to flagship models, before the major Hindu festival Dashain. However, specific models are yet to be confirmed. CG Mobile is currently assessing the compatibility of Motorola phones with Nepal’s telecommunications network.
This is not Motorola’s first venture into the Nepali market. The brand debuted in Nepal in 2017 by partnering with LifeCom, the then-authorized distributor of Lenovo smartphones in Nepal. Unfortunately, it did not gain a significant market share.
Motorola re-entered Nepal around 2020 with a new distributor, Call Mobility, which is also the distributor for Lenovo in Nepal. However, Call Mobility has been inactive for a few years, failing to launch new Motorola phones.
CG Mobile informed TechLekh that Motorola has terminated Call Mobility as its official distributor in Nepal. When TechLekh contacted Call Mobility, a representative mentioned that no updates on this matter had been received.
This new collaboration between CG Mobile and Motorola aims to rejuvenate Motorola’s presence in the Nepali market, leveraging CG Mobile’s local expertise and market reach.
