NaiTel and Telecom Egypt Complete Coral Bridge Subsea Cable Linking Jordan and Egypt

NaiTel, the telecom arm of Aqaba Digital Hub (Jordan’s largest carrier-neutral data centre), and Telecom Egypt have announced the successful completion of the Coral Bridge subsea cable, the first direct telecommunications link between Jordan and Egypt in over 25 years.

The 15-kilometre cable stretches across the Gulf of Aqaba, landing in Taba, Egypt, and Aqaba, Jordan. Equipped with 48 fibre pairs, Coral Bridge can transport more than 1 Petabit of data traffic, enabling advanced digital applications such as AI and cloud computing. Its short length delivers ultra-low latency and reduced costs, enhancing efficiency for regional and global traffic.

This is also the first subsea system to land at Telecom Egypt’s new Taba cable landing station, part of its international infrastructure expansion in Sinai. On the Jordanian side, it connects to the Aqaba Digital Hub’s Tier III facility, strengthening redundancy and recovery options for enterprises, hyperscalers, and regional operators.

By leveraging both nations’ strategic locations and Telecom Egypt’s global subsea ecosystem, Coral Bridge offers seamless onward connectivity across Asia, Africa, and Europe. Telecom Egypt CEO Mohamed Nasr emphasized that the system will play a crucial role in aggregating regional traffic and channeling it through Egypt’s diverse terrestrial routes to the Mediterranean, boosting resilience and supporting data centre growth.
