Algeria’s Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications Reports Major Upgrades in Annaba’s Networks and Postal Services

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications has announced substantial progress in enhancing communication and postal services in Annaba State, following directives issued by Minister Syed Ali Zarouqi during his April 2025 field visit. A recent review confirmed that these initiatives have delivered tangible improvements, ensuring citizens receive better-quality services.

One of the standout achievements is the rapid expansion of the fiber optic network under the Network Asarna program, which is accelerating the shift from copper to fiber infrastructure. The number of fiber subscribers in Annaba grew by 46%, rising from 65,454 in April to 95,768 today. Algeria Telecom teams have also been conducting awareness campaigns and community outreach to encourage fiber adoption.

Mobile network coverage has improved significantly with the installation of 40 new stations, while an additional 120 are scheduled to come online soon. To accommodate seasonal demand, temporary mobile stations were deployed at popular beaches such as Janan Albay, Shataibi, Shabi, Sanklo, Sidi Salem, and Ain Ashir, enhancing connectivity for both residents and tourists.

In support of digital skills development, a Skills Center was launched to provide training, workshops, and research opportunities in areas such as artificial intelligence. The initiative aims to empower students, researchers, and start-ups, fostering innovation and preparing youth for future technological challenges.

Postal services were also strengthened with the deployment of two mobile post offices in the new city and one in Arctic Caleetus, reducing congestion and improving access. Plans are underway for the establishment of two permanent post offices in Feather Arm and Armani Caleetosa, with feasibility studies already completed.

The Ministry emphasized that these initiatives reflect its determination to modernize Algeria’s communication networks and postal infrastructure while promoting technological innovation and addressing citizens’ needs. Annaba’s achievements are being highlighted as a model for advancing public services through coordinated action and continuous follow-up.
