Loc8 Secures 5G Licence in Namibia, Targets Q1 2026 Launch

Windhoek — Loc8 has officially entered Namibia’s telecoms market as the third operator to receive a 5G licence, with plans to roll out its network in Q1 2026. The company, originally launched in 2016 as a software provider specializing in geo-location technology, has steadily pivoted into telecoms by securing multiple spectrum licences.

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has allocated spectrum in the 703–788MHz and 790–862MHz bands. Under the terms, Loc8 must comply with quality-of-service obligations, including maintaining download speeds of at least 20 Mbps.

Loc8 joins MTC, which became the country’s first operator to launch commercial 5G in August 2025, and Telecom Namibia, which also targets an early 2026 rollout. This sets the stage for increased competition in Namibia’s mobile broadband market.

Collin Uirab, CEO of Loc8, confirmed that the operator already has a commercial framework in place and will prioritize urban consumers and industries, with a focus on IoT applications in mining and other sectors. He noted that Loc8 has secured several fibre routes and direct access to subsea cables, enhancing resilience and strengthening network readiness.

Meanwhile, Paratus has announced plans to launch the country’s first private 5G network, underscoring the rapid momentum in Namibia’s 5G landscape.
