Burkina Faso and Tunisia Deepen Digital Cooperation with Smart City Partnership

Ouagadougou — October 10, 2025:
Burkina Faso and Tunisia are joining forces to advance digital innovation through the creation of a Smart City initiative, following a high-level meeting between Dr. Aminata Zerbo/Sabane, Burkina Faso’s Minister of Digital Transition, Postal and Electronic Communications, and a delegation from the Tunisia for the Development of Africa (TUCAD) organization.

Led by TUCAD President Anis Jaziri, the Tunisian delegation presented a proposal to establish a technology hub dedicated to information technologies in Burkina Faso. The envisioned Smart City would serve as a regional center for startups, digital incubators, and innovation-driven enterprises, fostering collaboration between both countries’ technology ecosystems.

TUCAD emphasized Tunisia’s extensive experience in digital entrepreneurship, incubation, and accelerator programs, offering to share its expertise and support the project through technical collaboration and financing.

Minister Zerbo/Sabane welcomed the initiative, underscoring its alignment with Burkina Faso’s digital transformation strategy and its potential to strengthen regional cooperation. Both sides agreed to continue discussions through technical working groups to assess the project’s feasibility, define requirements, and identify investment channels.

The meeting concluded with a joint commitment to build a sustainable digital partnership that promotes innovation, job creation, and technological resilience across Africa.
