MTN Nigeria to Connect 8 Million Homes with Nationwide Fiber Network by 2028

MTN Nigeria has unveiled an ambitious plan to expand its fiber-optic network to reach more than 8 million homes across the country by 2028, underscoring its commitment to broadband growth and nationwide digital inclusion.

The large-scale initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s National Broadband Plan and Digital Economy Policy, aiming to provide households, businesses, and SMEs with reliable, high-speed internet capable of supporting data-intensive services, remote work, and emerging digital applications.

MTN said the rollout is driven by Nigeria’s rapid urbanization, population growth, and increasing demand for low-latency connectivity. To ensure sustainable and efficient deployment, the company will collaborate with infrastructure providers, state governments, and local contractors, integrating fiber into new housing developments while addressing long-standing challenges such as vandalism, right-of-way issues, and network disruptions caused by road construction.

The telecom operator praised the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for classifying telecom infrastructure as national assets and for fostering policies that support broadband expansion.

MTN reaffirmed that the fiber expansion project reflects its mission to deliver affordable, reliable broadband access to millions of Nigerians—strengthening the country’s digital economy and positioning Nigeria as a regional connectivity leader.
