Nepal Telecom (NTC) has continued its network modernization in Gandaki Province, expanding both 4G and 2G coverage to remote and high-altitude areas, including popular trekking destinations in Manang district.
The company recently activated 4G service in several wards of Ngisyang Rural Municipality — Pisang (Ward 1), Ngawal (Ward 3), Tanki (Ward 8), and Khangsar (Ward 9) — replacing older 2G VSAT-based connections. The upgrade, launched on Ashwin 04, 2082, comes in response to increasing demand for faster data and improved communication in tourism-driven regions.
Due to the difficult terrain, NTC deployed ADSS Link technology between Besisahar and Khangsar, as radio links were not feasible. The expansion also covers Tilicho Base Camp, a major trekking site, and Kotogaun (Chame Rural Municipality-3), where both 4G and 2G services went live earlier this month following local complaints about poor coverage.
The company has further upgraded Nasong Rural Municipality Ward 1, extending 4G signals to the Chyamche area north of Lamjung, and plans to launch 4G soon in Thorong Phedi, another key stop on the Annapurna Circuit route.
Ngima Ngitu Lama, NTC Office Chief for Manang, expressed gratitude to local communities for their cooperation, noting that the expansion aligns with NTC’s mission to extend modern telecom services to every local level by 2082/83.
The 4G service offers users high-speed data, VoLTE HD voice calls, video streaming, and real-time connectivity, supporting both residents and tourists. As of Bhadra 2082, NTC’s 4G network serves over 14.2 million users nationwide, covering 99% of local levels across Nepal.
