Qatar Foundation and Canada Explore AI’s Transformative Role in Education and Society

Leaders, experts, and policymakers from across Qatar convened at Education City for a high-level roundtable organized by Qatar Foundation’s global education initiative WISE, in collaboration with the Embassy of Canada in Qatar, to discuss the transformative potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education, innovation, and society.

The event coincided with the visit of The Honourable Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, who highlighted Canada’s leadership in responsible AI policy and emphasized the importance of collaboration between governments, academia, and industry in advancing human-centered digital transformation.

“The Government of Canada is focused on harnessing the benefits of AI for growth and shared prosperity,” said Minister Solomon. “We see concrete opportunities to strengthen collaboration with Qatar—from research and development to commercialization and capital investment.”

Yousif Al Naama, CEO of Qatar Foundation, underlined QF’s commitment to integrating AI into its educational, scientific, and community initiatives.

“AI is central to our mission—from meeting students’ learning needs to developing socially impactful solutions and preserving cultural understanding,” he said. “In harnessing AI to its full potential, we must ask what our communities truly need and what challenges we must solve.”

Stavros Yiannouka, CEO of WISE, stressed the importance of global partnerships to ensure AI benefits all learners.

“As we stand at the intersection of technology and education, we must develop AI responsibly and inclusively,” he said. “Only then can it truly enhance learning, especially in underserved communities.”

The roundtable reinforced Qatar Foundation’s and WISE’s roles as global conveners driving ethical AI ecosystems, talent development, and international cooperation in education and innovation. The session concluded with calls for continued collaboration between Qatar and Canada to ensure AI technologies serve human progress and social inclusion.
