WIPO Backs Launch of Algeria’s First Green Tech TISC Network

Algeria has taken a significant step in advancing sustainable innovation with the launch of its first thematic Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC) network dedicated to green technologies. The initiative, unveiled on November 19, 2025 at the Centre de Recherche en Environnement (CRE) in Annaba, marks a major milestone in the country’s climate and innovation strategy.

The launch event brought together more than 100 participants from research institutions, universities, government bodies and industry. Organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Algeria’s Institut National Algérien de la Propriété Industrielle (INAPI), Université Constantine 3, and CRE, the initiative aims to strengthen Algeria’s green innovation ecosystem and position the country as a regional leader in sustainable technology.

The Governor of Annaba, Abdelkrim Lamouri, attended the ceremony, underscoring the government’s commitment to accelerating environmental innovation.

WIPO highlighted the central role of intellectual property in scaling climate solutions. Through its global platform WIPO GREEN, innovators in Algeria will be able to connect with partners and investors worldwide. “Algeria has the potential to innovate, and it will require strong collaboration with different economic partners to identify where the needs are,” said CRE Director Pr. Bouslama Zihad.

WIPO’s Algeria Office Director Mohamed Saleck Ahmed Ethmane called the initiative a first-of-its-kind model, noting that Algeria is leading the way in creating a thematic TISC network focused specifically on green technologies. Clarice Mporamazina Aboagye, Partner Engagement Specialist at WIPO, presented opportunities for Algerian innovators to showcase their solutions through WIPO GREEN’s global network, describing it as a “community committed to accelerating sustainable innovation.”

The event concluded with roundtable discussions where members of the new network established a workplan and outlined upcoming activities, including innovation challenges, capacity-building programs and potential collaboration through WIPO GREEN acceleration projects. Participants expressed strong interest in forming long-term partnerships to drive impactful climate solutions.
