Nigeria’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the rollout of 4,000 telecom towers across underserved communities to improve digital access and inclusion. Announced after a council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu, the initiative empowers the Ministry of Digital Communications and the Ministry of Finance to drive nationwide tower deployment alongside new service centres supporting the digital economy and agricultural mechanisation.
Minister of Information and National Orientation Muhammed Idris said the project targets the 23 million Nigerians currently lacking meaningful connectivity, noting that limited digital access has stalled economic participation and basic communication. The improved network footprint is also expected to strengthen national security and stimulate rural commerce.
The FEC further approved agricultural mechanisation service centres across the country’s six geopolitical zones to support year-round farming. Both decisions align with the government’s medium-term expenditure framework and broader plans to enhance economic resilience.
