Oman Drops to 68th in Digital Quality of Life Index 2025

Oman has ranked 68th globally in Surfshark’s Digital Quality of Life Index 2025, slipping from 56th place last year, according to the latest report by the Netherlands-based cybersecurity firm. The index assesses 121 countries across internet affordability, internet quality, digital infrastructure, digital security, and a newly introduced artificial intelligence category.

Within the GCC, the UAE ranked highest at 44th place, followed by Qatar (46th), Saudi Arabia (49th), Bahrain (55th), Oman (68th), and Kuwait (73rd). Finland topped the global rankings, while the United States led the AI category despite placing 16th overall.

Oman’s strongest performance was in digital infrastructure, where it ranked 40th globally. The sultanate placed 55th in internet affordability, 70th in internet quality, and 60th in AI readiness, outperforming more than half of the countries assessed in the new AI category. Digital security remained a challenge, with Oman ranking 89th, though still ahead of the UAE in this pillar.

Internet speeds in Oman remain below the global average, with fixed broadband averaging 140 Mbps and mobile speeds at 185 Mbps. However, the report noted strong year-on-year improvements, with mobile speeds rising 45% and fixed broadband speeds increasing by 26%. Europe continued to dominate global rankings, while Singapore entered the global top 10 for the first time.
