du has partnered with Huawei to deploy the UAE’s first customised multi-band Indoor Base Station (IBS) solution, marking a major milestone in the operator’s 5G-Advanced network expansion. The solution is designed to significantly enhance indoor 5G coverage across high-traffic locations such as VIP venues, shopping malls, and tier-one tourist destinations, where users typically experience the greatest connectivity challenges.
The new IBS integrates 3G, 4G, and 5G capabilities into a single radio unit, enabling a more efficient and compact network architecture. The customised pico Remote Radio Unit (pRRU) has been specifically designed for du’s network and represents the first deployment of its kind in the UAE. By consolidating multiple frequency bands into one solution, the technology improves indoor speeds and coverage while reducing physical footprint, power consumption, and operational complexity.
Saleem AlBlooshi, Chief Technology Officer at du, said the partnership with Huawei reflects du’s continued commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer experience. He noted that the solution allows du to deliver high-performance 5G connectivity in indoor environments where people live, work, and shop, while supporting long-term network efficiency.
The one-box, digital-first design simplifies deployment and maintenance, lowers capital and operating costs, and positions du’s network for future 5G applications. The initiative strengthens du’s leadership in indoor network coverage and aligns with broader digital transformation and sustainability objectives across the UAE.
