Bahrain Becomes First GCC Nation to Launch Direct-to-Device Satellite Services

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Bahrain has announced the launch of Satellite Direct-to-Device (D2D) services, making the Kingdom the first GCC country to deploy the technology. The service allows standard mobile phones to connect directly to satellites in areas without terrestrial network coverage, including maritime zones.

The initiative is expected to significantly enhance public safety by ensuring reliable connectivity in remote and hard-to-reach locations. By extending mobile access beyond conventional networks, Bahrain aims to ensure uninterrupted communication in critical situations.

The launch supports TRA’s broader strategy to strengthen Bahrain’s leadership in digital innovation and connectivity. It aligns with the Kingdom’s vision of building a resilient, secure, and advanced digital infrastructure while supporting the growth of a strong digital economy.

With the introduction of D2D satellite services, Bahrain positions itself as a regional pioneer, setting a new benchmark for advanced telecommunications adoption across the GCC.
