Msheireb, Honeywell in deal to power GenNext Smart City in Qatar

Msheireb Properties has announced a strategic partnership with Ooredoo Qatar and Honeywell to enhance the automation and management of Msheireb Downtown Doha, reinforcing its position as one of the world’s most advanced smart and sustainable urban developments.

The collaboration, unveiled at Web Summit Qatar, introduces an artificial intelligence-powered platform designed to optimise city operations, improve efficiency, and enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors. Ooredoo will serve as the prime operations partner, while Honeywell will customise its City Suite platform to act as the core technology backbone, integrating thousands of sensors across the city into a unified operational system.

The platform will combine AI-enabled analytics with operational performance data from multiple city services, enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, automated incident management, and improved operational planning. A digital twin of the city infrastructure will also allow engineers to simulate upgrades and minimise downtime before implementation.

The agreement includes five years of managed services to ensure continuous evolution of the smart city platform, supporting Qatar’s broader digital transformation goals under Qatar National Vision 2030. The initiative aims to strengthen governance, operational efficiency, sustainability, and urban resilience through advanced data-driven technologies.

Msheireb Downtown Doha already incorporates extensive smart infrastructure, including more than 650,000 IoT sensors, 10,000 automated underground parking spaces, and thousands of CCTV cameras integrated with building automation, utilities, security, and emergency systems. The partnership is expected to further advance intelligent urban living while establishing a model for future smart city developments in the region.
