Egypt’s House of Representatives is set to hold meetings with the leadership of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) and Telecom Egypt to address public concerns regarding internet usage and package structures.
Ahmed Badawy, head of the parliamentary Communications and Information Technology Committee, said the discussions will focus on internet packages and service performance, with both entities expected to provide detailed briefings. The outcomes of the meetings will be communicated publicly following the discussions.
The sessions will also review ongoing plans to strengthen telecommunications infrastructure and improve internet service quality across the country. The move comes amid increasing public scrutiny over data package consumption and complaints regarding rapid data depletion.
Badawy emphasised that internet connectivity has become an essential service supporting education, healthcare, transportation, and broader economic activity. According to figures from Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, active mobile subscriptions reached 116.2 million in April 2025, reflecting a 6.57 percent year-on-year increase.
