Algeria Launches First National Hackathon to Boost Youth Innovation

Algeria’s Ministry of Formation and Vocational Education has launched the first edition of the National Hackathon for Vocational Formation, aimed at encouraging innovation and strengthening entrepreneurial skills among young people as part of the country’s broader digital transformation agenda.

The event, inaugurated by Minister Naseema Arahab at the Women’s Sports Center in Ben Aknon, aligns with national directives to support innovation in digital and modern technologies through initiatives such as Innovator and Lasima. The hackathon forms part of wider efforts to position vocational education as a driver of innovation and economic development.

The competition attracted 447 registered participants from across Algeria, with 200 candidates selected to form 41 teams representing 37 states. Participants are competing across key strategic areas including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, Industry 4.0, renewable energy, web development, and audiovisual production, supported by specialized coaches and industry experts.
