MUSCAT: Omantel has launched Otech, a new technology platform designed to accelerate Oman’s digital transformation and strengthen the country’s digital economy through advanced technology partnerships and integrated ICT services.
The launch ceremony took place at the Royal Opera House Muscat under the patronage of Abdulsalam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi, President of the Oman Investment Authority, and was attended by senior government officials, industry leaders and technology partners. The initiative reflects Omantel’s broader strategy to evolve from a traditional telecommunications provider into an integrated digital technology company focused on innovation, infrastructure development and ecosystem enablement.
Mulham bin Bashir Al Jaraf, Vice President of the Oman Investment Authority and Chairman of Omantel’s Board, said the launch supports Oman Vision 2040 and the country’s 11th Five-Year Plan, particularly its focus on building a knowledge-based and technology-driven economy. He described the transformation as an ecosystem approach that combines infrastructure upgrades, digital solutions, talent development and cross-sector integration to create sustainable economic value.
Al Jaraf added that developing national capabilities remains central to the strategy, with Otech prioritising training and upskilling in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, cloud computing and digital solutions to prepare Omani talent for emerging technology roles.
Omantel CEO Alaa Al Din bin Abdullah Bait Fadhl, who also serves as Chairman of Otech, said the launch represents a significant milestone for both Omantel and Oman’s technology sector. He noted that Otech is intended to establish a unified technology ecosystem that enhances competitiveness, supports economic diversification and advances Oman’s ambition to become a regional hub for telecommunications and digital services.
Maqbool bin Salim Al Wohaibi, Acting CEO of Otech, said the integration of Oman Data Park into the new platform strengthens national digital infrastructure by expanding data centre capabilities and sovereign cloud services for both public and private sector clients. The move also supports data localisation requirements while enabling access to advanced cloud environments.
Otech has entered into strategic partnerships with Oracle for hyperscale cloud platforms through Oracle Alloy, PwC for cybersecurity solutions and capability development, and Nagarro for systems integration across emerging technologies. Additional collaborations include Palo Alto Networks’ Unit 42 for threat intelligence and incident response, Fortinet for cloud-enabled SASE cybersecurity solutions, and Nama Shared Services for smart utilities and systems integration initiatives. The platform also includes partnerships with Omani startups such as Orki, Decoil and Remedy to support local innovation.
The platform consolidates Omantel’s technology assets, including Oman Data Park and Tedom, under a unified operating model to deliver services spanning data centres, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, Internet of Things and systems integration, aligned with local governance and regulatory frameworks.
As part of the announcement, Omantel inaugurated the Firq Data Centre, positioning it as a key infrastructure component within the Otech ecosystem to support secure, scalable and mission-critical operations.
Omantel stated that Otech now operates one of the region’s most diversified cloud ecosystems and has become the first entity in the Middle East to receive Amazon Web Services accreditation for sovereign cloud service delivery. The platform enables organisations to run workloads across public, hybrid and hyperscaler environments through partnerships with Oracle, Google Cloud, Huawei and AWS.
The company said the launch responds to rapid growth in the ICT services market, driven by government-led digital transformation initiatives and the continued expansion of the digital economy, while supporting workforce development and long-term national technology capability building in line with Oman Vision 2040.
