On the occasion of its 19th anniversary, Ncell, Nepal’s premier telecom operator, has launched the “Ncell Foundation,” a significant stride in its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) endeavors. The foundation is committed to steering all the company’s social initiatives and has pledged Rs 200 million to support new programs.
Mr. Jabbor Kayumov, CEO and MD of Ncell, reflected on the company’s longstanding commitment to Nepal’s development across various sectors such as health, education, and environment, positively impacting over 13 million lives. “The Ncell Foundation aims to consolidate all our CSR activities under one cohesive framework to amplify our impact,” Kayumov stated during the anniversary event.
The foundation is set to drive initiatives aligning with three core objectives: supporting vulnerable groups, bridging the digital divide, and fostering a sustainable and healthy Nepal. These goals are part of the company’s contribution to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Since its inception, Ncell has been at the forefront of providing substantial aid during national crises. Notably, the company donated Rs 100 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund following the 2015 earthquake and has consistently supported disaster relief efforts, including recent assistance to the Karnali Province Government for earthquake response.
The launch event was also a platform to commend extraordinary achievements within the community, notably honoring Para-athlete Palesh Goverdhan, Nepal’s first-ever medalist at the Paralympic Games. Ncell announced a Rs 10 million reward for Goverdhan, underlining their commitment to supporting unsung heroes.
Additionally, the foundation introduced the ’19 for 19′ initiative, which will allocate Rs 1 million each to 19 social projects across Nepal’s seven provinces. This initiative follows the successful ’18 for 18′ program, which is currently being implemented.
As Ncell steps into its 20th year, it reaffirms its dedication to Nepal’s digital future and continues to expand its range of services, preparing for the next technological advancements including 5G.
“Ncell is not just about connectivity and business; we are a committed stakeholder in Nepal’s journey towards a sustainable and inclusive future,” said Kayumov, as he emphasized the telco’s role in both technological and social advancements in the country.
