IEC Telecom UAE wins CSR award for offshore crew welfare connectivity platform

IEC Telecom UAE has been named CSR Initiative of the Year at the Oil and Gas Middle East Awards 2026, recognised for its Welfare System, a satellite connectivity platform designed to improve working conditions for offshore energy sector crews across accommodation barges, platforms and support vessels.

The system integrates multiple satellite networks into a single platform, managing bandwidth allocation through intelligent traffic management to ensure equitable access across large numbers of simultaneous users. The platform targets a specific operational problem in offshore environments: crew members consistently exceeding allocated data limits despite usage monitoring, creating cost pressure on operators and support burden for network teams.

Measured outcomes from deployments over the past year include a 50 per cent reduction in troubleshooting time, an 85 per cent drop in user complaints and cost savings of up to 39 per cent through optimised connectivity management. The system currently supports more than 5,000 rotating users per month across deployed sites and vessels.

“Ensuring that offshore personnel stay connected with their families and the world around them is no longer a luxury, it is a responsibility,” said Alaa Alsadi, Commercial Vice President for the Energy sector at IEC Telecom UAE. The Welfare System also received high commendation in the Innovation in Action category at the same awards.

Editor’s Note: The offshore welfare connectivity market is growing across the Gulf as energy sector operators face increasing regulatory and reputational pressure around crew wellbeing standards. IEC Telecom’s managed bandwidth model — controlling cost while guaranteeing access — is likely to become a template for similar solutions as ESG expectations tighten across the regional oil and gas sector.
