Ericsson and du, a premier telecom and digital services provider, have unveiled a new partnership aimed at enhancing du’s 5G network across the UAE. This collaboration will see du harnessing Ericsson’s Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio to boost the capacity and efficiency of its 5G infrastructure. This enhancement will improve service delivery for both Mobile Broadband (MBB) and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) customers, ensuring higher quality and seamless connectivity.
The upgrade is set to prepare du’s network for future digital services, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and cloud gaming, while also laying the groundwork for the adoption of 5G Advanced technologies.
Fahad Al Hassawi, the Chief Executive Officer at du, commented on the partnership, stating, “This agreement with Ericsson is a significant milestone in the expansion of our 5G network. It not only boosts our capacity to improve services such as Fixed Wireless Access but also positions us strongly for a future rich with innovative digital services in areas like AR, VR, and cloud gaming.”
Nicolas Blixell, Vice President and Head of Ericsson Gulf Council Countries at Ericsson Middle East and Africa, also shared his enthusiasm about the agreement, saying, “Our continued partnership with du underpins Ericsson’s commitment to spearhead 5G innovation in the region. By enhancing du’s 5G network, we are setting the stage for ultra-fast, reliable connectivity essential for powering next-generation digital services. Our joint efforts will address the growing consumer and business demand for high-performance networks in the UAE.”
The collaboration not only reinforces Ericsson’s position as a trusted RAN provider since 2021 but also showcases the latest advancements in its 5G offerings. One notable innovation includes the introduction of an energy-efficient and compact radio unit that combines three sectors and three frequency bands into one. This development reduces tower space requirements and cuts power consumption by up to 40%, highlighting the sustainability focus in their long-term network solutions.
