Banglalink and Teletalk have unveiled a groundbreaking initiative in Bangladesh with their national roaming field trial. For the first time in the country, customers of both operators will have access to each other’s network coverage, significantly improving mobile connectivity.
During this field trial, the two telecom giants will evaluate the seamless transition between alternative networks, especially in regions with coverage gaps across Bangladesh. The initial phase will focus on post-paid voice and SMS services in specific areas, followed by subsequent phases that will include pre-paid and data services.
This strategic collaboration aims to provide Teletalk and Banglalink customers with enhanced mobile connectivity throughout the country while promoting network sharing between the operators. Once the field trial is successfully completed, the service will be available commercially, offering customers expanded and seamless national coverage for all services. This initiative also aligns with energy conservation and green infrastructure development in Bangladesh.
Similar services are already available in 22 countries, including India, Pakistan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and others.
Post and Telecom Minister Mustafa Jabbar expressed his support for this partnership, stating, “I am happy to see this partnership between Teletalk and Banglalink and believe that this initiative will open up the possibility of network sharing among telecommunication operators in Bangladesh.”
Banglalink CEO Erik Aas emphasized the significance of this initiative, saying, “When launched commercially, this will offer customers of both operators a seamless, high-quality network experience nationwide. The successful implementation of this field trial will not only enhance our services but also pave the way for future cross-industry partnerships and opportunities.”
