The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) of the UAE is encouraging the public to promptly notify their telecom service providers in the event of losing or having their mobile devices stolen. Recognizing the growing reliance on mobile devices for various transactions and services, TDRA has developed systems and procedures to address such incidents.
When a loss or theft is reported and verified, the service provider will blacklist the device’s International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), effectively blocking it from connecting to any wireless network in the UAE within 24 hours. The same period applies for unblocking if the device is recovered.
TDRA emphasizes the importance of using protective measures like passwords, two-step verification, and device-tracking features. Saif Bin Ghelaita, Director of Technology Development Affairs at TDRA, stated that these efforts aim to enhance community security and privacy. The authority also urges the public to provide accurate information about the incident and coordinate with the relevant authorities, highlighting these measures as part of TDRA’s commitment to regulating the telecommunications sector and improving customer experiences in the UAE.
