Egyptian Mobile Operators Set to Launch Wi-Fi Calling Service by Year-End

Egyptian mobile network operators are in the final stages of technical testing for a Wi-Fi calling service, slated for launch before the end of this year, according to sources familiar with the matter. Last year, these operators submitted proposals to the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) to establish regulatory and operational guidelines for the service.

The Wi-Fi calling service is designed to enhance indoor signal strength, addressing issues of poor coverage in densely populated areas and high-rise buildings. The service will be priced similarly to regular mobile calls, depending on the subscriber’s existing call plan.
