The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates “Madayn,” in collaboration with Knowledge Oasis Muscat and Al Tamimi and Company, hosted a seminar titled ‘Digital Horizons: Exploring the Future of Data, Telecoms, and Technology’ on Tuesday. The seminar delved into Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance, its associated risks, and its legal impacts in Oman, also examining the integration of AI-driven predictive analytics in the healthcare system to improve patient outcomes.
Saif Al Riyami, Business Development Director at Knowledge Oasis Muscat, underscored the importance of the seminar in navigating the complexities of AI and leveraging the latest technological advancements to push the Sultanate’s tech sector forward. The event is part of an ongoing effort to provide incentives and share expertise that caters to the demands of a digitally evolving landscape.
David Yates from Al Tamimi and Company discussed the operational dynamics and implications of AI technologies like ChatGPT, highlighting the legal challenges, ethical considerations, and potential risks associated with generative AI systems. His presentation outlined the importance of human oversight in AI applications to manage misinformation, privacy issues, intellectual property concerns, and broader economic impacts.
Highlighting the proactive approach towards AI adoption in Oman, Yates mentioned the potential AI holds for enhancing productivity across various sectors, inspired by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s emphasis on innovation and technology among small and medium enterprises. According to Yates, sectors like healthcare, public services, energy, and agriculture are already advancing through AI and related technologies, promising greater efficiency and innovation for the Sultanate’s future.
