In a major push to boost digital growth and foster economic development, the Pakistani government is establishing state-of-the-art IT parks to empower young professionals and entrepreneurs. These parks are designed to provide the necessary resources to turn innovative ideas into successful businesses, create job opportunities, attract foreign investment, and support the country’s fast-growing tech sector.
According to an official from the Ministry of Information Technology, the IT parks are expected to generate significant employment, attract millions of dollars in foreign investment, and increase Pakistan’s tech exports. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “Digital Pakistan” vision, aimed at transforming the country into a modern, tech-driven economy.
One of the key projects under this initiative is the construction of an IT park in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad, which is receiving financial and technical support from Korea. The park, valued at Rs 13.72 billion, seeks to address the infrastructure shortage in Pakistan’s IT sector while bridging gaps between academia and industry to promote technology transfer, research, and development. An official stated, “This investment will connect higher education institutions with industry, commercialize technology, and enhance the competitiveness of the IT sector.”
The Islamabad IT park will feature a 12-story complex offering over 66,000 square meters of office space. It will accommodate approximately 120 start-ups and small-to-medium enterprises, providing them with modern facilities such as testing laboratories, classrooms, an industry-academia linkage center, and an auditorium, all designed to foster collaboration and innovation.
This development is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to increase IT exports to $25 billion and position the country as a regional hub for IT development. By creating the infrastructure needed to support the tech industry, Pakistan aims to drive sustainable job growth and accelerate its digital economy.
