Bangladesh’s interim government chief adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has stressed the importance of expanding technology in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) to bridge the communication gap in the region. Addressing a training program titled “Hilly Zilla Parishad Management” at the CHT Complex in Dhaka on Wednesday, he highlighted the challenges of communication in the hilly areas due to their inaccessibility and emphasized the role of technology in overcoming these obstacles.
Professor Yunus pointed out that while the hill districts are rich in natural beauty and resources, they are lagging in development compared to other regions. He suggested that the people of CHT should leverage their crops, fruits, and traditional products for economic progress.
Reflecting on the recent achievements of women footballers from the CHT, Yunus said, “Your daughters have won the world in football.” He encouraged the youth to think beyond the local context and aspire to become global citizens. He expressed optimism that, despite the region’s limitations, expanding mental horizons and embracing technology would enable the CHT to overcome its geographic constraints.
He also invited the youth of CHT to participate in the upcoming youth festival scheduled for January and urged parents to encourage their children to take part. Professor Yunus urged the youth to focus on education, assuring that CHT would not remain behind the larger cities in terms of development.
