Sri Lanka’s central bank is spearheading a digital payments promotion event in Nuwara Eliya, set for March 22-23, aimed at encouraging the public to register for mobile payment apps. This initiative seeks to provide a more convenient, secure, and cost-effective alternative to cash for everyday transactions.
The event will showcase mobile payment service providers, including banks, telecom companies, and e-money service providers, along with micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). Attendees will also be able to use the LANKAQR payment method and receive special discounts from participating vendors, enhancing their experience with digital payment tools.
Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Governor Nandalal Weerasinghe will be present at the event, offering guidance on how to use mobile payments effectively. This initiative highlights the central bank’s commitment to fostering digital literacy and promoting the adoption of electronic payment methods across Sri Lanka.
By providing easy access to digital payment methods, CBSL is paving the way for more widespread adoption of mobile payments in Sri Lanka, positioning the country for greater economic efficiency and innovation in financial transactions.
