Dialog Axiata Sets New Benchmark for Mobile Connectivity in Sri Lanka with 6.2Gbps 5G Milestone

Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka’s leading connectivity provider, in collaboration with Huawei and Samsung, has achieved a significant milestone in its 5G journey by demonstrating a 6.2Gbps speed on its 5G Standalone (5G SA) Ready network. This marks the fastest recorded speed in Sri Lanka on a commercial smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. This achievement showcases the transformative potential of 5.5G Ultra Advanced Technology and sets a new benchmark for mobile connectivity in Sri Lanka. The trial utilized industry-leading innovations, including Massive MIMO, 3CC Carrier Aggregation in the sub-6GHz spectrum, and 1024QAM modulation.

As the first network in Sri Lanka to be 5G SA Ready, Dialog’s breakthrough was made possible through a public outdoor trial network, optimized for performance enhancements. This milestone further demonstrates Dialog’s commitment to advancing connectivity and unlocking the potential of 5G for both consumers and businesses in Sri Lanka.

Huawei’s network solutions were pivotal in enabling the trial, while Samsung played a key role by providing the necessary features on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, ensuring a smooth testing experience.

“We are excited to achieve 6.2Gbps on our 5G SA Ready network,” said Ranga Kariyawasam, Chief Technology Officer of Dialog Axiata PLC. “This milestone not only highlights the potential of 5G to transform digital experiences but also showcases our ongoing efforts to enhance connectivity in Sri Lanka.”

Dialog’s 5G journey began in 2018, making it the first telecommunications provider in South Asia to demonstrate 5G capabilities. Since then, Dialog has expanded its 5G innovation with the widest trial network in Sri Lanka, achieving several industry-firsts, including the first-ever 5G Standalone trial, the first mmWave 5G trial in South Asia, and the first Voice over 5G (VoNR) service trial in the country.

Beyond Sri Lanka, Dialog’s 5G connectivity extends to over 50 destinations worldwide, offering seamless experiences to roaming customers through partnerships with over 100 operators. Additionally, Dialog supports a wide range of 5G-ready devices, ensuring that more customers can benefit from ultra-fast speeds and low-latency connectivity.
