Oman Launches Digital Maritime Portal to Streamline Sector Operations

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) has officially unveiled the Oman Maritime Portal, a centralized digital gateway designed to modernize the Sultanate’s maritime and logistics services. This initiative is a core component of the ministry’s broader digital transformation strategy, aimed at eliminating paperwork, accelerating administrative procedures, and improving operational transparency for individual mariners, commercial shipping companies, and government bodies.

The portal’s rollout is structured into six strategic phases and will eventually host more than 90 electronic services. The first phase, currently live, introduces 13 essential functions, including:

  • Vessel Management: Registration of ships and marine units, along with mortgage and release certificates.
  • Permits & Licensing: Issuance and renewal of navigation permits.
  • Safety & Compliance: Inspection requests and automated performance monitoring.

To ensure a seamless user experience, the system is fully integrated with several key national entities, including the Royal Oman Police, the Oman Business Platform, and various private sector partners. A sophisticated digital dashboard provides administrators with real-time analytics, order statistics, and performance indicators, facilitating data-driven decision-making and enhanced regulatory oversight. Beyond technical upgrades, the project includes a capacity-building mandate to train national talent in managing and evolving the platform.
