AMARC MENA Launches Regional Community Media Network in the Middle East

The World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters Middle East and North Africa (AMARC MENA) has launched a new regional community media network aimed at strengthening independent media collaboration, digital participation, and knowledge exchange across the Middle East.

The initiative was announced during the “Independent Media… Strong Society” conference in Jordan and brings together media organisations, civil society stakeholders, and community broadcasting representatives from across the region.

According to organisers, the network is intended to support collaboration between independent and community media platforms while promoting media development, digital inclusion, and regional coordination on issues related to public interest journalism and access to information.

The launch reflects growing interest across the region in strengthening digital media ecosystems and expanding platforms that support local content creation, citizen engagement, and community-level communications.

Media organisations globally are increasingly navigating rapid digital transformation as online platforms, streaming technologies, social media distribution, and AI-driven content systems reshape how information is produced and consumed.

In the Middle East and North Africa, digital infrastructure expansion and growing internet penetration have accelerated the evolution of independent media ecosystems, particularly among digitally native audiences and community-focused platforms.

The initiative also comes amid broader regional conversations around media sustainability, digital rights, information accessibility, and the role of technology in enabling more decentralised communication ecosystems.

Industry observers note that community and independent media networks can play an important role in supporting localised content production and media diversity, particularly as digital platforms continue reshaping the regional communications landscape.

The conference additionally explored themes related to media independence, digital participation, and the future of public-interest communication in increasingly connected societies.

Editor’s Note:
The launch of the AMARC MENA regional network reflects the growing intersection between digital infrastructure expansion and evolving media ecosystems across the Middle East. As connectivity and platform accessibility improve, community-driven media initiatives are becoming increasingly relevant within broader discussions around digital participation, information access, and regional media transformation.
