Moroccan e-health startup One Med Link is developing an AI-powered clinical workflow and health-data platform designed to work alongside existing hospital systems, with an initial focus on improving clinical documentation, interoperability and the structuring of healthcare data for both patient care and research.
Founded last year by Deyaa Wahbi and Soukaina Benabid, the startup has attracted more than 200 healthcare professional users and close to 50 research users as it prepares to move from early adoption and R&D toward larger institutional deployments.
One Med Link is also preparing its first fundraising round to accelerate product development, institutional adoption and future expansion across Africa.
AI layer designed to complement hospital systems
Rather than attempting to replace hospital information systems or electronic medical records, One Med Link is positioning its technology as an intelligent layer connecting healthcare professionals, existing systems and clinical data.
The platform supports several parts of the clinical workflow, including documentation, medical summaries, structured patient information, clinical scores and decision-support tools, prescription-related processes and dashboards.
It can also transform unstructured medical information into structured data that can subsequently be reused.
“Our objective is not to replace existing hospital information systems or electronic medical records. Instead, we are building an intelligent technological layer that can work alongside existing infrastructure and make clinical workflows faster, more structured and more efficient,” Wahbi said.
The company sees the administrative and information-processing burden surrounding existing systems as a significant problem for clinicians, who can spend substantial time documenting consultations, locating information, transferring data between systems and preparing summaries.
FHIR forms core of interoperability strategy
Interoperability is central to the startup’s technology strategy.
One Med Link is being designed around international healthcare standards including Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources, or FHIR, enabling the platform to communicate with existing digital health infrastructure rather than operating as another isolated system.
This approach could be particularly important for institutional deployments where hospitals already operate established information systems and replacing those platforms would introduce additional cost and complexity.
The startup’s proposition is instead to add workflow and intelligence capabilities while allowing institutions to retain their existing digital infrastructure.
“Rather than importing a model designed for another healthcare system and adapting it afterwards, we are trying to build something locally relevant but internationally interoperable,” Wahbi said.
Startup targets African health-data gap
Beyond workflow automation, One Med Link is also focusing on how clinical information generated within African healthcare environments can be structured for research.
The company argues that African populations remain insufficiently represented in many clinical datasets and AI models used internationally.
Its longer-term objective is therefore to make health information generated in Morocco more structured and usable for medical research while maintaining data-protection requirements.
The ambition is to help create a stronger foundation for locally relevant healthcare research and eventually AI development rather than relying exclusively on models and datasets produced around healthcare systems elsewhere.
One Med Link has not disclosed details of the AI models underlying its platform, the datasets used to develop them or specific clinical validation results.
Rabat hospital deployment marks next stage
The company is now preparing for an institutional use case involving the emergency department of a new hospital in Rabat.
One Med Link plans to support the digitalisation and optimisation of clinical workflows within the department.
Emergency medicine provides a demanding environment for the platform because rapid access to information, documentation quality and structured decision-making can directly affect operational efficiency.
The project represents an important transition for One Med Link from R&D and controlled adoption toward larger institutional deployments.
The startup said it increasingly intends to measure its performance through operational indicators such as time saved on clinical documentation, medical record completeness, workflow efficiency, professional adoption and the usability of structured clinical information for research.
First fundraising round planned
One Med Link was initially self-funded and has subsequently received funding through accelerator programmes.
It is now preparing its first external fundraising round, with the proceeds expected to support product development, institutional deployments and eventual geographic expansion.
No target amount, valuation or timetable for the round was disclosed.
The company currently operates primarily through a B2B model, working directly with healthcare institutions.
Commercial arrangements can vary according to the institution, functionality required, integration complexity and overall project scope.
One Med Link eventually plans to introduce a subscription offering for independent healthcare professionals and private practitioners seeking access to selected tools outside larger institutional environments.
Morocco to serve as base for African expansion
The startup intends to establish institutional deployments and demonstrate measurable results in Morocco before expanding internationally.
Its initial expansion strategy is focused primarily on Africa, beginning with the wider Maghreb and North Africa before potentially moving into selected French-speaking African markets.
One Med Link believes these markets share challenges around healthcare digitalisation, fragmented information, interoperability and clinical workforce efficiency.
Rather than deploying exactly the same system in each country, the company plans to adapt its platform to local regulatory, clinical and technological requirements.
Why this matters
One Med Link is addressing two related challenges that will become increasingly important as African healthcare systems digitise: making existing health technology easier for clinicians to use and creating higher-quality structured data that can support future research and AI applications.
Its interoperability-first approach is particularly relevant. Hospitals may already have electronic records and other software, making another standalone application potentially counterproductive. A technology layer capable of connecting with those systems while reducing documentation and data-processing workloads could offer a more practical route to adoption.
The research dimension could ultimately be equally significant. Improving the representation of African populations in clinical datasets requires more than developing new AI models. It requires healthcare systems capable of capturing, structuring and governing locally generated clinical information in the first place.
