Ghana Ranked 8th in Africa for Internet Quality in 2024 Surfshark Digital Quality of Life Index

Ghana was ranked 8th in Africa for internet quality in the 2024 Surfshark Digital Quality of Life (DQL) Index, with an index score of 0.304. The report highlights the factors of speed, stability, and overall performance, which are essential for efficient communication, work, and entertainment online.

Mauritius led Africa with an internet quality index of 0.361, followed by Ivory Coast, Egypt, and Algeria in the top four spots. South Africa, Senegal, and Burkina Faso secured the 5th, 6th, and 7th positions. Morocco and Nigeria rounded out the top 10 rankings in Africa.

Despite some advancements, many African countries still face challenges such as slow internet speeds, high data costs, and inconsistent network coverage, which limit access to essential digital services like e-commerce, telemedicine, and online banking. The report also highlights that African nations, while improving, continue to fall behind in terms of digital quality of life compared to their European counterparts, with the highest-ranked African nation at 66th place globally.

The DQL Index evaluates countries based on factors like internet affordability, quality, e-infrastructure, e-security, and e-government, providing a comprehensive view of digital well-being across the world.
