Baidu in Talks to Launch Driverless Ride-Hailing Service in UAE

Chinese internet company Baidu is in discussions with authorities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to introduce its driverless ride-hailing service, Apollo Go, to the country. The company is aiming to begin testing its robotaxis in Dubai as early as the first half of this year, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Baidu’s move into the Middle East market is part of its broader international expansion strategy for its autonomous driving technology. The company’s Apollo Go service, which offers fully autonomous ride-hailing, has already been deployed in several Chinese cities. The successful implementation of the service in Dubai could mark a significant milestone for Baidu, positioning it as a key player in the rapidly growing autonomous transport sector in the region.

The tests in Dubai will provide an opportunity to demonstrate Baidu’s robotaxi technology, which aims to offer a safe, convenient, and efficient transportation alternative. The UAE, particularly Dubai, has been a leader in embracing smart city technologies and is seen as a key market for autonomous vehicles. If successful, Baidu’s Apollo Go service could help Dubai further strengthen its reputation as a hub for cutting-edge technology and innovation in transportation.
