Dubai Internet City Contributes AED100 Billion to Dubai’s GDP Over 15 Years, Strengthening Tech Ecosystem

Dubai Internet City (DIC) has added AED100 billion ($27.2 billion) to Dubai’s GDP over the past 15 years, as highlighted in an impact study conducted in collaboration with Accenture and featuring insights from key figures in the information and communications technology (ICT) industry.

The Dubai Internet City – Impact Assessment study, which measures the contributions of the region’s leading tech hub since its establishment in 1999, comes as Dubai continues to rise as a global tech powerhouse. Today, DIC accounts for 65% of Dubai’s technology sector GDP, contributing significantly to initiatives such as the Dubai Economic Agenda ‘D33’.

Ammar Al Malik, Executive Vice President of Commercial at Tecom Group and Managing Director of Dubai Internet City, remarked, “In line with Dubai’s visionary roadmap to foster the technology sector, Dubai Internet City has been instrumental in driving the regional digital economy and disruptive innovation for more than 25 years.” He added, “This study reflects our ongoing commitment to nurturing tech innovation that accelerates sustainable prosperity – for the economy, the people, and our globally integrated ecosystem of technology and AI companies, as well as global talent.”

The district’s growing influence is further reflected in the creation of over 125,000 direct and indirect jobs, alongside AED1.6 billion in investments focused on training and talent development. Home to over 4,000 customers, including multinational corporations, Fortune 500 companies, and start-ups, DIC marked its 25th anniversary in 2024 with more than 31,000 professionals part of its thriving community.

Dubai Internet City is one of the 10 sector-specific business districts under Tecom Group’s portfolio, alongside Dubai Media City, Dubai Studio City, Dubai Production City, Dubai Knowledge Park, Dubai International Academic City, Dubai Science Park, Dubai Industrial City, and Dubai Design District (d3).

The study underscores the district’s role as a platform for innovation, offering cutting-edge infrastructure that unites professionals, including AI pioneers, from more than 150 countries. Dubai’s strategic position as a global gateway supports international expansion for businesses and professionals alike.

Additionally, DIC provides seamless access to over 200 corporate and government smart services through Tecom Group’s axs portal, enhancing ease of doing business for its community. The district has also demonstrated success in talent development and knowledge-sharing, with women making up more than 25% of its workforce. Since 2021, the number of women-run start-ups has doubled at in5 Tech, the sector-specific vertical of Tecom Group’s incubator, in5.
