Nepal Telecom (NTC) has issued a notice advising customers to use mobile data instead of public WiFi hotspots for digital payments, citing security concerns. The company emphasized that mobile data is more secure and reliable compared to public WiFi, which can expose users to fraud, scams, and hacking.
NTC’s request comes amid growing concerns over cybersecurity, with hackers potentially targeting users connected to public WiFi networks. The company highlighted that public WiFi networks are often unprotected and can allow malicious users to intercept personal information, including mobile banking and digital wallet details. As a precaution, NTC recommended using mobile data for transactions to reduce the risk of data breaches and scams.
In response to some customer concerns about the cost of mobile data packs, NTC has made data packages available through their *1415# service or Nepal Telecom App, allowing users to buy data as per their needs. The company stressed that using mobile data ensures the privacy and security of users’ transactions, as it is provided directly by the telecom company with advanced technologies to protect user data.
