Syria and Saudi Arabia Discuss Enhancing Cooperation in Telecommunications and IT Sector

Minister of Communications and Technology Abdul Salam Haykal met with Saudi Ambassador to Damascus, Dr. Faisal al-Mujfel, to explore ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation in the telecommunications and information technology sector. The discussions were part of efforts to support Syria’s reconstruction process.

During the meeting, held at the ministry on Monday, Minister Haykal emphasized the crucial role of the telecommunications sector in improving citizens’ quality of life and fostering economic growth. He also outlined the ministry’s plans to upgrade Syria’s digital infrastructure to align with global advancements, despite challenges such as funding shortages and infrastructure limitations.

Ambassador Dr. Faisal al-Mujfel expressed Saudi Arabia’s support for Syria, highlighting the longstanding historical ties between the two nations. He also reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to provide technical expertise and share resources in the telecommunications field, including the establishment of joint task forces to implement collaborative projects.
