AMMAN — The number of e-wallet users in Jordan has risen by 6 percent, according to recent statistics released by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ). Digital wallet usage among Jordanians has reached 2.17 million users. CBJ stated that eight payment and electronic transfer companies are authorised by the CBJ, in addition to 19 banks providing mobile payment services. These services facilitate financial transactions between mobile wallets and bank accounts.

Sara Younes, a Jordanian banker, explained that e-wallets are mobile applications or online payment tools that facilitate online transactions. She noted that e-wallets are becoming stable in Jordan due to their security and convenience, reflecting the widespread adoption of digital financial instruments.

However, Younes mentioned that a downside to e-wallets is that users tend to spend more money, often losing track of their expenses. She also pointed out that younger generations are more likely to use e-wallet applications than older generations.

Noor Shabsoug, a Jordanian in her 20s who uses one of the eight available e-wallets, said that people in Jordan are using digital wallets at least twice as much as traditional payments. She noted that local preferences for digital payments are increasing in almost all governorates.
