Since its inception in 2021, the ‘Digital Sharjah’ initiative, spearheaded by the Sharjah Digital Department (SDD), has successfully processed over 952,000 transactions amounting to AED 41.5 million ($11.3 million) and has drawn more than 95,000 users.
The SDD has been pivotal in revolutionizing the digital landscape in Sharjah through various projects and initiatives that offer comprehensive and distinguished services to both residents and visitors. In line with the directives from the emirate’s government to foster digital transformation and boost competitiveness locally and internationally, SDD has launched a unified digital platform. This platform consolidates over 60 digital services from 19 entities across local, federal, and private sectors, making it simpler for users to access diverse services.
Data from the platform shows a significant uptake in activity in July 2024, with transactions surpassing 952,000, marking a quarterly growth of 31%. The platform’s user base also expanded from 2,992 to around 95,000 during this period, with the website amassing over 2.5 million visits between February 2020 and July 2024.
The ‘Digital Sharjah’ application has seen a dramatic 615% increase in downloads across Android and iOS devices, soaring from 16,066 in 2021 to nearly 100,000 by 2024.
Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of the Sharjah Digital Department, highlighted that the substantial growth in transaction numbers and user engagement is a testament to the department’s successful collaborations with various government and private entities. This partnership has enabled them to deliver a simplified, dependable, and high-quality digital experience tailored to the needs of citizens, residents, and visitors.
He emphasized the public’s trust and enthusiasm for using the platform as a driving force for ongoing collaborations and enhancements. “We are dedicated to persistently upgrading the platform by integrating the latest technological innovations and proactive principles. Our aim is to include a broad spectrum of government and independent services that not only meet but exceed user expectations,” he said.
In its initial phase, the platform offers targeted services for key sectors including transportation, real estate, business, security, utilities, social services, and public services, employing the latest technologies to ensure quick, easy, and secure access for all users.
