Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, participated in the 29th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Post and Telecommunications held in Kuwait, alongside ministers of communications and information technology from across the GCC.
The meeting reviewed progress on decisions made during the committee’s 28th session and discussed the outcomes of the 31st GCC Undersecretaries of Post and Telecommunications meeting held in Doha in September. Key topics included enhancing Gulf cooperation in digital infrastructure, advancing postal and logistics services, and promoting regulatory harmonization to reduce costs and support economic integration and digital transformation across member states.
Dr. Shaikh Abdulla also participated in the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) meeting, where the secretariat presented key initiatives on combating misinformation, cross-border electronic waste management, and supporting start-ups through model legislative frameworks. The minister reiterated Bahrain’s support for the DCO’s efforts to foster digital cooperation and sustainable development among member states. Participants commended the DCO’s leadership in building an integrated digital ecosystem and advancing the digital economy at both regional and international levels.
On the sidelines, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla held bilateral talks with Abdullah bin Amer Al Swaha, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, to explore deeper cooperation in telecommunications, AI, and digital infrastructure development. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to expanding joint initiatives under the GCC framework.
He also met with Deemah Al Yahya, Secretary General of the DCO, to discuss emerging technology trends and future collaborative projects. Both sides emphasized the importance of ongoing coordination to strengthen digital economy initiatives and sustainable innovation across the organization’s member countries.
Bahrain’s participation in these meetings reflects its continued dedication to regional digital integration, technological advancement, and the creation of a future-ready Gulf digital ecosystem.
