South Africa’s MTN Group has been ranked as the best telecom employer in Africa and the third-best globally in the telecommunications sector, according to Forbes’ World’s Best Employers 2025 list. Overall, MTN secured the 166th spot worldwide, with Microsoft topping the global rankings. In the telecom category, MTN was surpassed only by Mobile Telecommunications KSC (Kuwait) and Deutsche Telekom (Germany), outperforming major players like Orange and AT&T.
The rankings are based on feedback from over 300,000 employees across 50 countries, evaluating key aspects such as workplace culture, inclusion, respect, and employee well-being. With more than 19,000 employees across its markets—predominantly in Africa—MTN’s recognition highlights its strong commitment to nurturing a supportive and empowering work environment.
“This recognition is a testament to MTN’s unwavering commitment to fostering a workplace culture rooted in care, integrity, agility, respect, and inclusion,” the company said in a statement, referencing its ‘Live Y’ello’ values.
Ralph Mupita, MTN Group President and CEO, emphasized that the company’s people are at the heart of its mission to enable digital and financial inclusion across the continent.
“Our people are the driving force behind MTN’s purpose. It is through their dedication that we continue to lead in delivering digital solutions for Africa’s growth,” he said.
Paul Norman, MTN Group Chief Human Resources Officer, added, “This recognition affirms the importance of creating a workplace built on inclusivity, support, and personal growth—an environment where everyone can thrive.”
The Forbes ranking underscores MTN’s continued leadership not just in telecommunications, but also in employee experience and organizational culture, setting a new standard for corporate excellence across Africa’s business landscape.
