Ericsson and e& Egypt Partner to Accelerate 5G Network Modernisation and Cloud Transformation

Ericsson has signed a four-year agreement with e& Egypt to modernise and expand the operator’s network, driving 5G readiness through a comprehensive cloud-native transformation programme. The collaboration aims to enhance customer experience, strengthen data management, and introduce advanced monetisation and communication capabilities across the network.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will migrate e& Egypt’s unified data consolidation (UDC) to a cloud-native unified data management (UDM) system, enabling improved performance and scalability. Key upgrades include the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) for next-generation communication services, Ericsson Dynamic Activation (EDA), and the Service-Aware Policy Controller (SAPC) to optimise quality of service (QoS) and streamline operations.

Additionally, the deployment of Ericsson’s Cloud Native Infrastructure Solution (CNIS) and Network Functions Virtualisation Infrastructure (NFVI) will bolster the network’s core infrastructure. The agreement also extends to modernising e& Egypt’s convergent billing and mediation platforms, alongside the adoption of Ericsson’s cloud-native monetisation system, Ericsson Charging, which incorporates the Charging Access Function (CAF).

These enhancements will not only support the introduction of voice over LTE (VoLTE) but also prepare the network for emerging 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) use cases, improving flexibility and accelerating digital innovation.

Ericsson and e& Egypt have maintained a long-standing partnership spanning multiple generations of mobile technology. The latest agreement further cements their shared vision for advancing Egypt’s digital transformation. It follows a similar deal between Ericsson and e& UAE to upgrade the latter’s 5G core network to support immersive and mission-critical IoT services.
